Mohamad Fadel Afiouny takes over the business from Badriyeh and brings his brothers onboard

Expansion had begun and they opened two more stores (in the same street). Each brother ran one

Ghassan (otherwise known as Jimmy) was born. The second eldest of 8 kids. Jimmy was raised around the nuts and Confectionery business from an extremely young age. He was taught the family business.

On the 16th of January, Jimmy migrated to Australia and settled in East Gardens with a dream to grow the Afiouny legacy. He joined Leylands Car Dealership and made manager within six months. On weekends he roasted nuts in his garage, selling them to workmates through the week.

With demand outgrowing his garage, Jimmy left his manager role at Leylands to pursue the family trade full-time. The side hustle had become the business.

Jimmy opened a nut roasting shop in Ashfield with his uncle Farouk — one of the original three brothers who ran a store back in Zahriya. They named it Fleur Du Liban: Nuts & Confectionery. That same year, Jinan was born

Jimmy and his older brother Abdul Wahab expanded the operation beyond the shopfront, opening a warehouse in Roselands under the name Venice.

The Greenacre shop had been the heart of the operation for years. Jimmy rebranded it as Nutroasters a name that spoke plainly to what the family had been doing for three generations. It was the last name the business would ever need, and the one it still trades under today.

The Australian side of the family business began to solidify. As it grew, so did the expectations at home. All the children put to work, learning the trade the same way their father had. Tarek was born that same year.

Jimmy introduced coated peanuts to Australia Kri-Kri, a staple back home and reworked the recipe for the local palate. The result took off, becoming one of the products the business would be known for.

Some ground is worth reclaiming. Jimmy took back control of Venice and returned the operation to Roselands, consolidating everything under his own hand.

The computer age reached the warehouse floor. What had been run on paper, ledgers and memory for three generations started moving onto screens — the first real modernisation of how the business worked.
